Russian flexi discs were thin, flexible phonograph records that became popular throughout the Soviet Union and later Russia as an inexpensive way to distribute music. In the 1980s and 1990s, the Russian bootleg industry increasingly shifted toward thin, 6-inch-square flexi discs, frequently pressing unlicensed, low-fidelity recordings of popular Western rock and pop artists onto multicolored plastic. These releases were often packaged with unique, though typically low-resolution, picture sleeves. Despite their unofficial nature and modest production quality, they have become highly collectible.
