Record Store Day, Rejected Sleeve (2018)

Rejected first sleeve for the 2018 Record Store Day release of Rock and Roll / Friends, obtained from a former Warner Music executive who oversaw the project.

The initial sleeve was manufactured with the rough side of the cardboard facing outward and the smooth side inward, resulting in a matte black finish with light yellow text. The rear sleeve also featured the “Previously Unreleased” credit beneath Jimmy Page’s production credit, rather than under the individual track listings.

After review—despite the full production run already being completed—the sleeve was rejected. A revised version was then produced using the smooth side of the cardboard on the exterior, creating a glossy finish with bright yellow text. Additionally, the “PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED” text was capitalized and repositioned beneath each track listing. The original discs were retained and inserted into the corrected sleeves.

A small number of the rejected sleeves were not destroyed.
