Whole Lotta Love / Living Loving Maid

Introduced in 1968 by Americom Corporation of New York, the Pocket Disc was an experimental single format designed for compact, low-cost music distribution. These discs were sold at retail counter displays for 49 cents and also distributed through vending machines priced at 50 cents. The vending units featured multiple compartments for different titles and could hold up to 75 copies per selection, making them an unusual but efficient early attempt at automated music retailing.

This incredibly rare Pocket Disc features Whole Lotta Love backed with Living Loving Maid (She’s Just a Woman). The “Whole Lotta Love” edit on this release is unique, running 3:30—distinct from the standard LP version (5:33) and the U.S. single edit (3:12). Issued in a distinctive 4-inch flexidisc format, it plays at 33⅓ rpm and was originally packaged in a blue-and-white cardboard flip jacket.
